The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association is seeking a new leader: an environmentalist who would work for about 20 hours a month for the nonprofit that seeks to conserve and improve the 168-square-mile watershed that stretches from Greensburg south to Lowber.

“It really must be someone who cares about the environment,” said James Pillsbury, secretary of the watershed association board.

“The person we are looking for might be retired, or an employed person looking for a little extra income,” said Pillsbury, a hydraulic engineer with the Westmoreland Conservation District.

The executive director, who will be paid up to $25 an hour, will be responsible for the association activities and report to the board of directors.

The watershed association, founded in 1991, has four abandoned mine drainage treatment facilities along the vast watershed: Lowber, Wilson Run, Brinkerton and Andrews Run.

The organization has been without an executive director since Tom Keller retired last fall, Pillsbury said. The board found a successor to Keller last year, but that person never started the job, Pillsbury said.
