Joseph Pees fled from state police Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024.

Seton Hill University was on lockdown for about 90 minutes Wednesday while state police searched in the area for a man who fled when troopers tried to take him into custody on a warrant.

Trooper Steve Limani said the incident happened mid-morning on Mount Thor Road at the border of Hempfield and Greensburg.

Police were attempting to take Joseph Alan Pees, 31, into custody when he fled out of a trailer and into the woods. Pees is wanted for simple assault with a weapon and reckless endangerment. He had not been located as of late Wednesday.

University spokeswoman Jen Reeger said campus police sent out an alert around 11:20 a.m. notifying the campus that troopers were searching along railroad tracks adjacent to campus. The alert asked those present on campus to take precautions and stay inside. The alert was lifted around 12:45 p.m.
