Saltsburg man accused of heroin possession after traffic stop in Delmont
A traffic stop in Delmont on June 6 resulted in the arrest of an Indiana County man on charges of heroin possession.
Austin T. Hopkins, 23, of Saltsburg was charged by borough officer Jacob Cholock with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia before Export District Judge Charles Conway.
Cholock reported in court documents that he was on patrol about 10:30 p.m. when he saw a black Kia sedan turn from Stotler Drive on to Route 66 without using a turn signal. Cholock also said the vehicle quickly accelerated onto the highway traveling 58 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Cholock stopped the car and reported that Hopkins, who was a passenger, was acting nervously. During a consensual search, Cholock said he discovered multiple stamp bags of heroin tucked inside the “waist area” of Hopkins’ pants.
About 30 stamp bags of heroin marked “Chucky,” “Taken,” and “Red Alert” were confiscated, Cholock said. A bundle of heroin is 15 stamp bags.
Hopkins was charged by Conway’s office via mailed summons. A preliminary hearing is Aug. 6.
