Sale for Kids offers discounts on clothes and toys at Westmoreland Fairgrounds
More than 50,000 items are for sale this weekend at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds.
Offering clothes for boys and girls up to size 12, along with toys, movies and nursery items, Westmoreland Sale for Kids draws crowds each year from around the region.
“I was a young parent. I had two kids and I was involved in a smaller event,” said Lisa Enlow, organizer of the three-day sale.
Starting with 70 consignors, the sale has grown to more than 275 who offer items at a discount. Consignors pay $18 to rent space for their wares, according to the Sale for Kids website.
Two buildings at the Mt. Pleasant Township fairgrounds were filled with shoppers Friday. Enlow, of Hunker, said a handful of people waited outside the doors an hour before the sale opened at noon, some coming from Johnstown, Apollo and Uniontown.
Jacki Moust, of Berlin, Somerset County, was a first-time shopper on the hunt for clothes for her ninth grandchild. She said she will definitely be back in the future.
Starting the event 13 years ago, Enlow has grown it to include a teen and adult sale, scheduled for April 26-28 at the fairgrounds. Enlow said she starts planning for the April events in February.
Attendee and volunteer Greta Garsteck of Mt. Pleasant Township said, “I would see Lisa running back and forth between the two buildings like a crazy person and I said, ‘That’s insane for one woman to do.’ And I said, ‘I can handle this. I’ve seen your system, I can handle this.’ And I’ve been here nine years.”
Sale for Kids continues Saturday and Sunday. Some items could be half price on Sunday.
Diaper bags, backpacks, large purses or bags are not allowed into the buildings. Strollers and wagons will be checked when entering and exiting. Baskets and hampers are allowed, and large bags will be available for use.
“It’s a great sale,” Garsteck said. “Everyone should come who has kids.”
