Margaret Watkins, a member of the Saint Vincent College philosophy faculty since 2009, was named dean of the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Studies, officials at the Unity college announced Monday.

Watkins was named a professor in 2018. She previously filled in as interim dean of the school.

During her time as interim dean, she promoted new programs, including Saint Vincent’s digital art and media program and the new major in literary translation

“We are grateful for Dr. Watkins’ exemplary work as interim dean, in addition to her scholarly accomplishments as a member of the philosophy department. We look forward to her continuing contributions and leadership of the school as it moves forward,” said Saint Vincent College President Brother Norman W. Hipps, O.S.B.

A Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude graduate of the College of William and Mary, Watkins earned a master of arts and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame.
