PennDOT will close roads in North Huntingdon and Sewickley townships beginning Sept. 7 for slide repairs and a culvert replacement, respectively.
Both closures will involve marked detours.
The slide repairs will occur along a section of Guffey and Turner Valley roads, located between Guffey and Volk Road, and are expected to continue through Oct. 29.
Motorists will be directed along a detour including segments of Guffey, Clay Pike and Mars Hill Road.
According to Jay Ofsanik, spokesman for PennDOT District 12, crews just finished repairing a slide along an adjacent section of Guffey, between Turner Valley and Mickanin roads. That project began in mid-July.
Guffey was closed for several weeks in 2016, between Mickanin and Shaner roads, for a previous landslide.
“We’ve had a series of slides on this road,” Ofsanik said of Guffey. “We’re moving along and fixing them as we can.”
In Sewickley, PennDOT will close a section of Yukon Road, between McGrogan and Whyel roads, as crews demolish an aging box culvert that carries Yukon over a tributary to Sewickley Creek.
The closure is expected to last through Nov. 12, with a precast concrete pipe replacing the culvert.
Traffic will be detoured along March Street, Front Drive, Homer, Spring, Huntingdon and Wyano streets, and Waltz Mill Road.
