Five of seven cross-filed candidates received apparent nominations for four seats on the Greater Latrobe School Board, according to unofficial results of Tuesday’s primary. All are Unity residents.
Incumbents Heidi Kozar and Cathy Sarraf led the Democratic ticket, with respective vote totals of 1,814 and 1,630 — representing about 21% and 19%, respectively, of ballots cast in that party race, with all 20 precincts reporting.
Also receiving apparent nominations were newcomers Merle D. Musick, with 1,323 votes (15.34%), and Andrew Repko, with 1,260 votes (14.61%).
Rounding out the Democratic tally were: incumbent Bill Palmer, with 1,212 votes; Ryan Scarton, with 690; and Tom Gockel, with 653.
Repko was the top pick among Republican voters, with an unofficial count of 1,947 (about 17% of the vote).
Other apparent GOP nominees were: Kozar, with 1,854 votes (16.27%); Musick, with 1,820 (15.97%); and Palmer, with 1,740 (15.27%).
Trailing on the Republican ticket were: Sarraf, with 1,370 votes; Scarton, with 1,356; and Gockel, with 1,250.
Kozar, 62, who has a background in public policy, is in her 16th year as a school director.
Sarraf, 61, works as an administrative assistant. She fell short of gaining election to the school board in 2019 but was later appointed to fill a vacant seat.
Palmer, 64, has served on the school board for 12 years. He is the general manager of a construction firm.
Repko, 58, is a district school bus driver and is retired as major of the guard at a state prison.
Musick, 19, is a 2020 district graduate who is studying political science and participating in the Army ROTC program at the Pitt-Greensburg campus. He is the son of school board member Merle L. Musick.
Scarton, 45, is a Westinghouse engineer.
Gockel, 47, is a district bus driver and a residential program worker for a group home.
