A Catholic priest in Latrobe tested positive for covid19 and is in quarantine, the Diocese of Greensburg announced.

The Very Rev. Daniel Mahoney, pastor of Holy Family Parish at 1200 Ligonier St., tested positive for coronavirus, the diocese said it learned just after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Mahoney “is in quarantine with symptoms including loss of appetite and nausea but is expected to make a full recovery,” the diocese said in a news release.

The diocese reported that Mahoney has not come into contact with parishioners since March 17, when public Masses were suspended. His symptoms began March 19, the diocese said.

“Staff was notified immediately upon diocesan confirmation of the diagnosis and each has been asked to self-quarantine,” the diocese said.

On Tuesday, the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh announced that a priest there tested negative for coronavirus after coming into contact with someone exposed to the virus.

Despite the negative test result, the Rev. Thomas Gramc still will undergo a voluntary 14-day quarantine out of an abundance of caution, the diocese said.

Gramc went into isolation this week after showing minor symptoms consistent with covid-19.

He is parochial vicar of the Dormont, Mt. Lebanon, Scott Township grouping in the South Hills and chaplain for Seton La Salle High School.
