A 57-year-old Hempfield man was the victim of identity theft last year in which $1,063 in merchandise was illegally purchased by someone opening a credit line in his name, state police at Greensburg said.

The unknown thief gained access to the victim’s social security number and was able to open the credit line, which he used to purchase items from Wayfair.com in August 2019, police said.
