Pittsburgh man accused of DUI, impersonating police officer in Trafford

A Pittsburgh man is charged with driving while drunk, resisting arrest and impersonating a police officer during a traffic stop this week in Trafford.

Christopher N. Lenkiewicz, 36, was spotted driving erratically in a Nissan sedan before 4:15 p.m. Wednesday along Forbes Road and later pulled alongside Trafford Patrolman Richard Adams’ unmarked police vehicle, according to court documents.

Adams said Lenkiewicz smelled strongly of alcohol and slurred his speech as he told the officer, “Hey! I don’t know what’s up with these guys, but everything is all right.”

Lenkiewicz complied with an order to pull his vehicle over, stumbled out of the car and had to be helped to place his legs in the car when he returned to it, Adams said.

When asked to produce his vehicle license and registration, Lenkiewicz said, “Dude, I can’t give them to you,” adding, “I’m one of you, bro,” according to Adams.

Lenkiewicz claimed to be a Braddock police officer, which proved to be false, Adams said.

After ignoring requests to shut off his engine and exit the car, Lenkiewicz became aggressive and “chest-bumped” Adams, the patrolman said.

Adams and a second officer were able to handcuff Lenkiewicz after a struggle and had to help him with his balance when he later walked into the police station, according to court documents. He suffered a minor cut while rubbing his head against a divider between the rear and front passenger compartments of the police vehicle, Adams said.

Lenkiewicz at first agreed to have blood drawn for a blood-alcohol test but later refused, Adams said.

Lenkiewicz was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Helen Kistler in Harrison City and was released on unsecured $10,000 bail. He faces an Oct. 8 preliminary hearing.
