Pennsylvania Turnpike section will close overnight in Westmoreland County

The Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in both directions overnight between the interchanges at Monroeville and New Stanton.

The stretch will be closed from about 11 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday to allow for emergency removal of a sign structure at milepost 56.9, turnpike officials said.

Motorists still will be able to enter the turnpike at the Irwin interchange and travel east.

A suggested detour for eastbound drivers exiting at the Pittsburgh Interchange at Monroeville follows Route 22 eastbound and Toll 66 southbound to New Stanton. A reverse route is suggested for westbound turnpike travelers exiting at New Stanton.

Alternate-route cards will be available to travelers exiting at the Pittsburgh and New Stanton interchanges. Turnpike officials noted traffic volumes on detour roads are likely to be higher than normal during the closure.
