Motorists should be prepared for potential traffic delays Tuesday on Route 51 in Rostraver as crews complete preliminary field work for proposed reconstruction of the highway’s interchange with I-70.

According to PennDOT, southbound traffic on Route 51, in the area near I-70 and Finley Road, will be restricted to one lane between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. as workers obtain samples of materials below the road surface. Weather conditions could cause the work to be delayed until later the same week.

The sampling is a preliminary step as PennDOT considers potential reconstruction of the interchange and of an adjacent section of I-70, stretching between the Smithton High Level Bridge to the east and a point about a mile west of Route 51.
