PennDOT plans road closures in Youngwood, Rostraver
Road restrictions and closures are to begin Wednesday in Youngwood and Thursday in Rostraver, according to PennDOT officials.
Beginning at 4 a.m. Wednesday and continuing through May 26, crews will pave Route 119 northbound (Third Street) and southbound (Fourth Street), in Youngwood, between Hillis Street and the New Stanton line.
From 6 a.m. Wednesday through 7 p.m. Thursday, Hillis Street between Third and Fourth streets will be closed for paving.
Beginning 4 a.m. Friday and continuing through Monday, the central section of the intersection of Route 119 and Burton Avenue also will be closed for paving. No left turns will be allowed during the construction.
The closures are part of a $23.8 million revamping of the Route 119 corridor in Youngwood. In addition to paving, the project includes installation of new sidewalks with handicapped-accessible curb ramps.
Traffic calming measures include creation of slight curves in the edge of the travel lanes, called chicanes, that are intended to make drivers reduce their speed as they weave back and forth.
PennDOT will restrict traffic lanes on Route 906 in Rostraver, from 7 a.m. Thursday until 7 p.m. Friday, between Riverview Drive and Donner Avenue. Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday and continuing until 7 a.m. Tuesday, the section of road will be closed, with traffic detoured along Interstate 70 and Route 88 to the Charleroi-Monessen Bridge.
The changes in traffic patterns will allow crews to rebuild an embankment along Route 906.
