Penn-Trafford-Jeannette covid cases tallied for week of Feb. 2, 2021

Covid cases in the Penn-Trafford-Jeannette area continued to drop over the last week, with 27 new cases in the seven-day period ending Feb. 2, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Since the pandemic began in March, the six ZIP codes covering most of the three communities have seen a total of 1,620 confirmed cases as of Feb. 2, up from 1,593 on Jan. 26.

Residents of these six ZIP codes have taken a total of 8,999 coronavirus tests, 18% of which were positive. Since Jan. 19, 166 tests were administered, 16.27% of which were positive, marking the first time in months that the average positivity rate for the week was below that of the pandemic as a whole.

The breakdown of cases by ZIP code is:

  • Jeannette, ZIP code 15644: 866 confirmed cases, 12 new cases this week, 415 probable cases, 4,144 negative test results.
  • Trafford, ZIP code 15085: 387 confirmed cases, seven new cases this week, 144 probable cases, 1,688 negative test results
  • Harrison City: ZIP code 15636, 204 confirmed cases, three new cases this week, 89 probable cases, 822 negative test results
  • Manor, ZIP code 15665: 87 confirmed cases, one new case this week, 44 probable cases, 305 negative test results
  • Penn Borough, ZIP code 15675: 41 confirmed cases, four new cases this week, 29 probable cases, 207 negative test results
  • Claridge, ZIP code 15623: 35 confirmed cases, no new cases, 8 probable cases, 213 negative test results

A significant portion of Penn Township is grouped under the Irwin 15642 ZIP code. That ZIP code has seen a total of 2,452, confirmed cases, up 54 from the week prior.

Penn-Trafford School District has reported a total of 121 covid cases since the school year began, including five new cases reported in the last week. The new cases include three students at Penn Middle School, one staff member at Harrison Park Elementary School, and one student at Level Green Elementary School.

Westmoreland County has had a total of 17,925 confirmed cases, 6,958 probable cases,610 covid deaths and 81,564 negative tests since the start of the pandemic.

A large spike in cases in the county began in September and peaked Dec. 10 with 747 positive cases in a single day. Case counts have been declining steadily, but remain well above pre-September levels.
