Penn Township Ambulance offers free car seat safety inspections
Penn Township Ambulance will offer free car seat safety inspections Monday.
The event will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the station, 1030 Sandy Hill Road, Irwin.
Parents/caregivers can have their car seat reviewed to make sure it is the safest selection for a child’s age and weight and also that it is installed correctly.
The event is sponsored by the Traffic Injury Prevention Project (TIPP).
“Our on-site education provides parents and children with readiness for if a crash ever occurs,” said Kristen Urso, TIPP southwest regional coordinator.
Car seats have many safety features that go unused or that are used incorrectly by parents, Urso said.
For example, not using things like a tether forward-facing can make a difference in a crash, she said.
Urso said 73% of car seats are not used correctly.
A quick tip is to pinch the harness at the shoulder, she said. Not more than an inch of the belt should be able to be pinched.
