Pence to campaign in Westmoreland and Beaver counties Sept. 9
Vice President Mike Pence will campaign in Western Pennsylvania on Wednesday, as President Trump’s reelection effort continues its focus on swing state voters.
Pence is scheduled to appear at events in Murrysville and New Sewickley in Beaver County. The two stops, less than a week after Trump’s rally at the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity, underscore the campaign’s emphasis on small towns that pushed Trump to victory in Pennsylvania in 2016.
Pence is scheduled to appear at Penn Energy Resources’ Natural Gas Well, No. B24 at 540 Baker Road, New Sewickley, at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The event, yet another effort to highlight the Trump administration’s support for fossil fuels in the Marcellus Shale region, is open to the public, but tickets are required. Free tickets are available on the campaign website.
Final details and a time are still being arranged for an appearance the same day at Cornerstone Ministries in Murrysville, where the vice president is scheduled to appear at a stop on the multi-state Life Wins tour.
Organizers said the event will feature Pence and Susan B. Anthony List leaders at a roundtable discussion featuring pregnancy center leaders. The Susan B. Anthony List is a pro-life nonprofit that supports anti-abortion candidates.
Pence previously appeared at two stops on the Life Wins tour, first in Tampa, Fla. on Aug. 5. and on Sept. 3 in Raleigh, N.C.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List and author of a new book, “Life is Winning,” is among the speakers scheduled to appear at the roundtable discussion.
The Susan B. Anthony List is sponsoring a six-figure ad campaign in Pennsylvania newspapers highlighting its differences with the Democratic Party’s platform last week.
Although the Trump-Pence ticket lost in Allegheny County and Philadelphia in 2016, large margins in the state’s rural and suburban counties pushed them to a narrow victory in the state — an edge the campaign hopes to expand this year.
Pence appeared in Western Pennsylvania, campaigning at another Workers for Trump rally in Exeter, on Sept. 1.
He last visited Westmoreland County six weeks ago when he appeared before about 400 supporters at a Cops for Trump rally in a Greensburg parking lot.
