The Overly’s Country Christmas annual holiday lights display is open for the season, ready to host old and new traditions for area families.

The lights are accompanied by a Christmas village, model train display, Santa Claus and other attractions.

The nonprofit organization regularly donates proceeds from the event to local organizations, while allowing low-income, high-risk and terminally ill children and families the opportunity to visit for free. A representative who responded to a question from the Trib said $50,000 was donated last year to area groups.

In 2024, Overly’s Country Christmas contributed to the pediatric unit at Independence Health Latrobe Hospital, the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, the Reality Tour, Westmoreland County Animal Response Team and HEAL Animal Rescue.

Fire departments that received support included Mutual, Kecksburg, Trauger, Hecla, Calumet and Norvelt.

Overly’s had its beginning in 1956, when the late Harry Overly decorated his Armbrust-area home with holiday lights. Passing motorists began making donations, which his family contributed to support children’s medical services at area hospitals.

An estimated $4 million has been distributed to nonprofits since its creation, the representative said.

The display has been located at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds in Mt. Pleasant Township since the 1990s. It will be open select days through Dec. 30.
