Out & About: Westmoreland Hospital Auxiliary hosts French-themed dinner
Guests received a “bienvenue” as they arrived at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center on Saturday to dine in white at an outdoor dinner hosted by the Westmoreland Hospital Auxiliary.
Chairwoman Darlene Delaini, a former French teacher, was inspired to model the event after the Diner en Blanc, first hosted in Paris in 1988 by Francois Pasquier, when he invited a group of white-clad friends to an elegant dinner in a public park. Since then, the concept has spread around the globe.
Invitees at these pop-up dinners are required to provide their own food and drink, tables, chairs and decorations.
The auxiliary made it easy on the 150 white-clad guests by providing a tent, tables and chairs, a French-inspired meal catered by Caffe Barista and bottled water.
Table sponsors were responsible for table settings, glassware, decorations and other beverages.
Entertainment was provided by a Seton Hill University student jazz trio and strolling accordionist Greg Kerestan.
Funds raised at the dinner go to the auxiliary’s scholarship fund.
Traditionally, the group awards scholarships to Westmoreland County high school students who will pursue higher education in health care fields. This year for the first time, a scholarship also was awarded to an Excela Health employee for the purpose of continuing education.
Committee members included Sally Ann Novak, JoEllen Numerick, Debbie Reese, Joan Stairs and Kaaren Tintori.
