Out & About: Saint Vincent Summer Theatre Gala teases upcoming 53rd season
A pair of Broadway veterans entertained guests at the Saint Vincent Summer Theatre Gala, in the return of the signature fundraiser after a three-year hiatus.
Held March 31 in the Fred Rogers Center at Saint Vincent College, the event featured a program Broadway songs and stories by actors — and married couple — John Cudia and Kathy Voytko.
Cudia’s Broadway credits include “Les Miserables” and “Phantom of the Opera.” He met SVST producing artistic director Greggory Brandt while both were touring some years ago with “Les Miz.”
A Johnstown native, Voytko recently finished a run in “The Music Man” with Hugh Jackman.
Also on stage for the gala was actor Tim Hartman, well-known from his work with Saint Vincent and numerous Pittsburgh theater companies.
The Eric Barchiesi Trio provided music for the pre-dinner reception.
The summer theater returned with a two-show season in 2022, but it took an extra year to get the gala back up and running.
“It’s an important step in emerging out of covid,” said the Rev. Paul Taylor, president of Saint Vincent College. “We’re getting ready for a great theater season.”
The upcoming 53rd season will feature three productions and the long-awaited return of the popular after-theater cabaret, where patrons can linger for more entertainment, a beverage, popcorn and hot dogs.
Joining Brandt on the gala committee were George and Linda Austin, Aubrey Cintron, Terry and Nina Daughenbaugh, Angelo and Pam DeMezza, Karl and Carmen Eisaman, Jim and Maureen Laffey, Terry and Chris Linville, Albert Novak, Richard and Joanna Stillwagon, Morgan Stout and Marie Zanotti.
