Out & About: Lamp Theatre gala boogies back to the disco era

It was a boogie wonderland at Stratigos Banquet Center in North Huntingdon on April 29, as guests shook their groove things at The Lamp Theatre’s Disco Ball Gala.

They took a trip back to the ’70s, clad in glitter and gold chains, polyester shirts and platform boots, miniskirts and mustaches.

It was the sixth annual gala fundraiser for the historic Irwin theater that specializes in rock tribute acts, comedy shows and more popular entertainment.

Pittsburgh’s DJ Jess, with special guests DJ Holland and Koree, kept the hits coming as the dancing queens, macho men and sexy things took to the dance floor.

Attendees also had fun with a photo station, prize pulls, basket auction, 50/50 raffle and caricatures by Randy Bish.

Board President John Gdula gave a brief operations update, noting that volunteers and other supporters “did a lot of heavy lifting” in 2022, as the theater got new light and sound systems (the latter given a thumbs up by The Clarks when they played the theater in March) and the community art wall project also was completed.

This year’s projects include a marquee upgrade and installation of a closed-circuit television system.
