Offutt Field bash spotlights Greensburg Salem school spirit, marks return to classes Tuesday
It was time for the Golden Lions to roar Wednesday evening, as the Greensburg Salem School District welcomed the community for two hours of outdoor fun and school spirit activities at Offutt Field.
Those attending were encouraged to show their support by wearing the school colors — brown, white and gold.
One of the high notes of the event was a performance by the high school marching band and choir.
A cornhole tournament, organized by the school Mini-THON committee, raised money to battle pediatric cancer and to provide support to children and families affected by the disease.
Faculty members risked a soaking as they took turns in a dunk tank.
Other activities included karaoke, games, a selfie station, children’s crafts, face painting and a student artist market.
“We know great schools start by building strong communities,” district Superintendent Ken Bissell said in an Aug. 16 letter welcoming students, parents and community members for the new school year.
The district’s new slogan is “Children First — Engagement Always.”
Bissell said Greensburg Salem is “committed to our mission of educating every child to become a productive and responsible citizen in their future.
“Education Always means we will strive to create learning environments in the classroom, events and extracurricular activities that allow children to be agents and owners of their learning,” with “dedicated stakeholders focused on rebuilding our connections within our schools and community.”
Greensburg Salem students are slated to return to their classrooms on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
