Gas leak fixed at North Huntingdon strip mall

A North Huntingdon strip mall was evacuated early Sunday morning due to a gas leak, according to a Westmoreland County 911 emergency dispatcher.

Crews responded shortly after 7:40 a.m. to Norwin Town Square, which houses Planet Fitness, Shop ‘n Save and other businesses, to reports of the leak.

According to the Circleville Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page, crews found a leak in one of the air handlers on the roof. After investigating, officials found it was coming from a stove burner in a Japanese restaurant.

Crews were on scene for about three hours.

Lee Gierczynski, communications manager with Columbia Gas, confirmed the situation was clear and that gas services were being restored.
