A basement fire was quickly extinguished Thursday at a Yukon home, according to Yukon Fire Second Assistant Chief John Stants.
When firefighters arrived in the South Huntingdon village, they saw “smoke coming out of pretty much every window in the house,” Stants said. Firefighters breached a basement door just feet off Huntingdon Road to get to the flames.
The blaze was reported just after 11 a.m., according to a Westmoreland 911 dispatcher.
Stants said four people live there. All who were home escaped safely, he said. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
There was smoke damage to the first and second floors. The heaviest fire damage was just inside the basement door, Stants said.
Firefighters from several area companies were wrapping up work shortly after noon. A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause and origin.
Yukon is located off of Interstate 70 in southeastern Westmoreland County, between New Stanton and West Newton.
