The two finalists competing to be Norwin’s next superintendent will have an opportunity Wednesday to explain what positive impact they would have on the district.

With the public meeting and presentations by the candidates, the board wants to make the hiring process as transparent as possible, said Barbara Viola, board president.

The school board is on schedule to hire a replacement for Superintendent William Kerr in April.

Viola declined to identify the finalists. More than 20 candidates applied for the position, Viola said.

Each candidate will be given 25 minutes to talk about themselves and what they know about Norwin and what positive impact they will have on the school district and the communities it serves: North Huntingdon, Irwin and North Irwin. Another 20 minutes will be set aside for an open period of questions for each candidate.

The meeting with the candidates is by invitation only at the Norwin administration building.

The school district conducted a similar public meeting when Kerr was hired in 2010, Viola said.

Kerr announced in November that he intended to retire at the end of the school year. That gave the district more time to search for a replacement and have the person in place when the new school year starts, Viola said.
