Norwin could have new superintendent next month

Norwin School Board may be in a position to hire a new superintendent next month, according to a school board official.

More than 20 candidates applied for the position, board President Barbara Viola said. Interviews have already started. Viola declined to say if any candidates were employees of the district.

Superintendent William Kerr announced in November he would retire June 28, one year before his contract expires. Kerr has been Norwin’s superintendent since 2010.

Applications for the position were originally due Feb. 6 but that deadline was extended to Feb. 21.

The administration will be restructured for the 2019-2020 school year in the wake of the pending retirement of Timothy Kotch, assistant superintendent of secondary education. That position, along with assistant superintendent of elementary education, currently held by Natalie McCracken, will be combined to create the post of assistant superintendent of K-12 education.
