What was once farmland in North Huntingdon Township is a filled with newly built homes near the Oak Hollow Park in North Huntingdon.

North Huntingdon property owners will not pay any additional township real estate taxes next year under a final budget adopted by commissioners this week.

Commissioners approved a $14.62 million general fund budget, an increase of about $720,000 from the 2021 budget, while holding the line on taxes at 11.55 mills.

The budget allocates 9.23 mills to the general fund and 1 mill for capital improvements. The township’s fire departments will be allocated the money from 1 mill and the revenue from .32 mills is devoted to fire hydrant maintenance.

North Huntingdon will get half of its federal CARES Act funding — about $1.55 million — in 2022 and the other half in 2023. Much of the money for 2022 will be used for a new heating, air conditioning and ventilating system in the Town House, home to the township’s administrative offices.
