Residents and developers tapping into North Huntingdon Township Municipal Authority’s sewer lines will pay an additional $100 fee, effective July 1.

The municipal authority approved raising the tap-in fees to $4,500 per equivalent dwelling unit. The authority calculates the fee based on the need to recover some money spent on capital expenditures, retiring debt and helping finance new capital projects, according to requirements laid out in the state’s Municipal Authorities Act.

However, the sewage rates for customers in the fiscal year that began May 1 will not be raised for the sixth consecutive year.

Tap-in fees were raised when the authority board approved a $9.85 million budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

A $15.5 million, five-year capital improvements plan includes the third phase of sewer line replacement in Markvue Manor and increasing the Falcon Ridge pump station capacity.

The authority serves 12,300 residential and commercial customers in North Huntingdon and parts of Irwin, Manor, Hempfield, Sewickley Township, White Oak and South Versailles Borough.
