North Belle Vernon park to host fundraiser at Topgolf
A new event will help raise money for the North Belle Vernon Community Bank Park — an area for kids, people with special needs and those looking for a place to play soccer or dek hockey.
On June 2, park founder Robert J. Sokol will host a Topgolf fundraiser with the goal of raising half of the yearly $25,000 budget. Topgolf, with a location in Bridgeville, is an entertainment venue where golfers hit balls at targets.
“This Topgolf fundraiser is extremely important to us,” Sokol said.
The park at 702 Graham St. officially opened in 2016 after three years of renovations. Learning the park was going to close in 2013, Sokol approached borough officials and asked if he could renovate it.
Thanks to community members and over 2,500 volunteer hours, the park is used by schools and area organizations. Now, Sokol and those involved with the park are responsible with maintaining and fixing equipment and caring for the property.
“That puts a lot of pressure on us to (raise money),” Sokol said.
The Topgolf fundraiser will run from 2-5 p.m. at 400 Presto-Sygan Road, Bridgeville. Tickets cost $90 per person and includes an open barbecue, two adult drink tickets and two rounds of golf. Six golfers will be assigned per stall.
“It’s a party place,” Sokol said. “You don’t have to be a golfer to participate.”
Sokol said prizes will be given based on skill, but others will be given out for people who participate regardless of skill. A door prize will also be awarded.
Those interested in the event can contact Sokol at 724-929-2749.
Another golf event will be held in Madison on Aug. 24.
