No one was reported hurt when a shot was fired into the ground during an argument at Jeannette’s McKee Stadium on Saturday, according to Police Chief Donald Johnston Jr.

Officers learned two men got into an argument at the Park Street stadium at 10:15 a.m. when one of them fired a gunshot into the ground. Witnesses told authorities that both men fled.

Johnston said the Hempfield Flag Football League was using the stadium for games at the time. A representative could not be reached.

The stadium was being rented by the league and was not a district sanctioned event, said Jeannette City School District Superintendent Matt Jones. It was unclear why the two men were inside the stadium, he said.

After the shot was fired, the games were stopped. The stadium was closed for the rest of the day. Jones said the district has supplied police with surveillance video.

“Incidents like this highlight the need for all people to remain vigilant in maintaining personal and student safety,” he said in a letter to parents.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 724-527-4013 or submit a tip online at westmoreland.crimewatchpa.com/jeannettepd.

No charges had been filed in connection with the incident as of Monday afternoon.

A 2019 shooting at the stadium during a high school football game left one man dead and another facing homicide charges. Police said Dameian L. Williams, 48, of Jeannette, was fatally shot Sept. 6, 2019 just outside the stadium’s fence as the game headed into its final minutes.

Trial is tentatively scheduled for this month for Greg A. Harper, 43, of Jeannette.
