Construction has begun on a new 119-unit senior living facility in Hempfield.

Towne Square Senior Apartments, at 1043 Towne Square Drive, will offer one- and two-bedroom units and amenities including an on-site beauty salon and barber shop, a community room with planned activities and trips, a lounge and fitness center, according to the Clover Group’s website, the entity that is developing the property.

Units, which range from $1,085 and $1,295 per month, will include a fully equipped kitchen, in-unit washers and dryers, private patios or balconies and an emergency pull-cord system.

The development comes on the heels of a $13.1 million Westmoreland County Housing Authority project that will bring a 47-unit senior citizen apartment complex to Hempfield.

The project, dubbed Odin View Apartments, will be paid for through the sale of tax credits as well as more than $1.2 million in state grants. The four-story building will be constructed on the same property as South Greengate Commons, located along South Greengate Road.

Towne Square Senior Apartments will be located near Dino’s Sports Lounge and Painting With A Twist.

Patrick Karnash, director of planning and zoning for Hempfield, said an opening date for the facility depends on construction progress through the winter. The Clover Group is fielding interested applicants, who can call 724-757-2734 for more information.

Officials from the Clover Group did not respond to a request for comment.
