New registration could benefit Hempfield Area athletes, coaches
Hempfield Area School District officials are using a pilot program to help keep coaches and athletic trainers up to date on athlete information.
FamilyID, an online registration tool, is being used for all middle and high school athletes as a place for parents to submit athletic physicals. Board members will make a final decision on whether the program will be used during the 2019-20 school year during June’s meeting, said Superintendent Tammy Wolicki.
Before the program, parents submitted paper copies of physicals to the athletic department, she said. Parents can still turn in paper copies if they want.
The program also offers a free app for coaches, which provides easy access to medical information in emergency situations.
It is used by Penn-Trafford, Franklin Regional, Norwin and Greensburg Salem. Wolicki said it is costing the district almost $490 for the remaining school year.
Free physicals will be offered June 4 from 7 a.m. to noon in the field house trainers room.
