Mt. Pleasant Township man accused of hitting girlfriend with metal pipe
A 43-year-old Mt. Pleasant Township man was arrested for allegedly hitting his girlfriend with a metal pipe Monday, police said.
David A. Knopp was arraigned on two counts of aggravated assault and single counts of harassment and simple assault after the 3:45 p.m. incident at his home on Academy Lane. Knopp was arraigned before night court District Judge Tony Bompiani and ordered held in the county prison after failing to post $25,000 bail.
State Trooper Jeffrey Callihan reported in court documents that he was called to the scene for a report of a domestic argument where a man was hitting a car and a house with a large metal pipe.
When Callihan arrived, “(Knopp) had a large metal pipe in his hand and placed it on the ground when he saw me.”
According to Callihan, Knopp said that his girlfriend would not let him in the home, so he “began smashing her car with a metal pipe.”
He said Knopp told him that the woman came outside and the two continued arguing, but he did not recall hitting the her.
The woman told Callihan that Knopp shoved her and hit her left forearm with the pipe. She declined medical treatment.
Knopp’s preliminary hearing is Sept. 26 in Norvelt before Senior District Judge Roger Eckels.
