Mt. Pleasant Township church offers free drive-through meal distribution
A drive-through distribution of free spaghetti meals is slated for Saturday at St. John’s Union Church in Mt. Pleasant Township.
The event for local residents in need will begin at 11 a.m. and will last until about 100 meals have been served. The recommended limit is two meals per each person in a vehicle. Walk-ups are welcome at the church at 170 Hecla Road.
Those arriving should use the main entrance to the church grounds and drive up to the social room doors to receive meals. Recipients will exit via the cemetery.
Meals, in take-out packages, will include spaghetti, sauce, meatballs, Italian bread, bottled water and salad, with choice of ranch or Italian dressing.
Jim Watson, treasurer for a United Church of Christ congregation that shares the church building, said he and his wife, Cindy, will hand out the meals while observing covid-19 pandemic guidelines — wearing masks and gloves and limiting contact.
“We’re just going to be out there to try to help the people out a little bit,” he said.
