Mt. Pleasant man accused of threatening 3 people with knife

A 40-year-old Mt. Pleasant man is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison after allegedly threatening three people with a knife.

Daniel J. Abbruzzese was arraigned Friday on charges of aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and criminal mischief filed by borough police in connection with the incident that occurred just before midnight Thursday along the 300 block of Washington Street, according to court documents.

According to the complaint filed by officer Trevor Ely, Abbruzzese became angry when the victims allegedly taunted him about using a plastic chair to save a parking space along the street. Police allege he left his porch, chased the men with the knife and then scratched one of the victim’s car with the blade.

When police arrested Abbruzzese Friday, Ely reported he was “heavily intoxicated” and carrying three knives.

“When questioned about the incident, (Abbruzzese) kept stating, ‘I didn’t even get that close to them,’ ” Ely wrote in court documents.

Senior District Judge Eileen Conroy of Allegheny County ordered Abbruzzese held in the county prison after he failed to post $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled May 16.
