A motorcycle rider was taken to an area hospital after a crash with a pickup truck Monday evening in Derry Township, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Route 981 near Short Cut Road, north of Route 22, according to state police.

Troopers said Jameel L. Gloster, 43, of Pittsburgh, was traveling south on a Yamaha Warrior when he veered into the northbound lanes to pass other vehicles around bends in the road. He was hit head-on by a Ram 2500 pickup truck that was heading north, police said.

Gloster suffered serious injuries and was taken to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville. New Alexandria Fire Chief Ted Malik said the driver of the pickup was “shaken up but was not injured.”

Responding firefighters cleared the scene in about an hour, Malik said.
