More covid-19 cases reported among Norwin students
Norwin continues to experience an outbreak of covid-19 cases among students and staff, as the district said Saturday morning that two elementary students and one high school student have tested positive for the coronavirus.
The students have not attended school for the past several days, the district said in a statement, and the state Department of Health has completed all contact tracing for each case. Because these three students have not been in school, the buildings where they attended have already been deep cleaned and disinfected.
The two affected students at Hahntown Elementary School and the high school student will not return to school until they have completed isolation procedures for the virus, the district said.
Norwin on Thursday closed five schools — the high school, middle school, intermediate school and Hahntown and Sunset Valley elementary schools — because of the outbreak. Those schools are scheduled to reopen as planned on Tuesday. Only the Sheridan Terrace and Stewartsville elementary schools were not closed.
The only individuals who need to quarantine are those who have been contacted by the health department or the school nurse, the district said.
As the district closed five schools that serve about 4,400 of Norwin’s 5,300 students because of an increase in covid-19 cases, Superintendent Jeff Taylor announced that Norwin plans to return to full five-day-a-week instruction in school on Nov. 4. But, Taylor stated that those plans could change, depending upon the number of cases of covid-19.
