Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s “Live on the Lawn” concert series will host Beo String Quartet Sept. 25 at Hempfield Park.

Beo String Quartet will perform Sept. 25 in Hempfield Park, as part of the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s “Live on the Lawn” summer concert series.

Music will begin at 7 p.m. in the amphitheater of the park at 220 Forbes Trail Road.

The Pittsburgh-based quartet’s two earlier dates in the series were postponed due to inclement weather.

“Third time’s the charm!” said Joy Carroll, WSO marketing manager after the previous concerts were rained out. “We were thrilled we could find a new date with Beo String Quartet on Sept. 25, and we are hoping for lots of sunshine.”

Quartet members are Jason Neukom and Aviva Hakanoglu, violins; Sean Neukom, viola; and Ryan Ash, cello.

“We are bringing somewhat of a ‘sampler platter’ of a program to Live on the Lawn. While we typically perform complete string quartets, this time we are bringing a combination of single movements of quartets and stand-alone pieces and songs,” Jason Neukom said. You will hear some masterpieces by Schubert, Mendelssohn and Bach, as well as new works by Jessie Montgomery and our own Sean Neukom. To top things off we’ll also play our own arrangements of music from HBO’s ‘Band of Brothers’ and the movie ‘Amelie.’”

The quartet will perform Movement 3 fromNeukom’s “Haydn Recycled,” which is heavily based off of Haydn’s “Emperor” Quartet. The entire program includes:

• Schubert: Quartettsatz

• Jessie Montgomery: Strum

• Michael Kamen: Band of Brothers Theme

• Yann Tiersen: La Noyee

• Mendelssohn: String Quartet. No. 2 in A minor

• Bach: Art of Fugue

Now in its fourth season, Beo has performed more than 80 concert works in the United States and Europe, including more than 30 world premieres, and has produced dozens of recordings, according to its website. Its repertoire takes a modern approach to chamber music and includes arrangements of covers, along with original works and projects.

The group does educational tours of elementary, middle and high schools; short-term residencies at colleges and universities, and an annual summer residency with the Charlotte New Music Festival.

“(Beo has) introduced many audiences to music of both past and present and of varied genres,” according to the festival website. “Beo believes that its most important role is to champion music of our time and to create a mutually inspirational relationship between living composers, modern audiences, and performers alike.”

Attendance at the Sept. 25 concert is limited to 250 and preregistration is required. Guests should bring chairs or blankets and masks.

No pets or outside food is allowed. Non-alcoholic beverages are allowed, according to park rules. No food or drinks will be available for purchase.

Admission is $10, and donations are welcome. Safety guidelines and registration information are available at westmorelandsymphony.org.
