Looking out over rows of headstones, many adorned with flags for the veterans who lie there, Army Capt. Ellyn Grosz, 29, of Irwin, who serves with the 82nd Airborne, speaks about the honor and sacrifice of the soldiers who gave their lives, during the Memorial Day ceremony at Union Cemetery in Irwin, on Monday, May 27, 2019.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department announced this year’s Memorial Day services for Baggaley in Unity and Youngstown have been cancelled.

Firefighter Anthony Matusky said the department opted to cancel the traditional services “due to concerns for the safety of our members and the community.”

Matusky said firefighters intend to resume the memorial services in 2021.
