Memorial 5K in memory of Mike Reese set at Mammoth Park

An event in memory of the late state Rep. Mike Reese is set for July 6 at Mammoth Park.

The Mike Reese Memorial 5K — Roast, Run and Family Fun is $50 for adults and $25 for people under 21. The donation includes the run, food, drinks and entertainment. Youth sports teams can get a special discount by emailing mikereesememorialfund@gmail.com.

Reese was 42 when he died in January 2021 of an apparent brain aneurysm. He served 12 years in the state House of Representatives and had been elected to his seventh term in office in November 2020. He represented Westmoreland and Somerset County residents in the 59th Legislative District.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mike Reese Memorial Fund which provides scholarships to local high school graduates and athletes participating in travel team programs, as well as grants to athletic organizations for equipment and capital improvements.

Registration is can be completed online. Same-day registration starts at 9 a.m at Pavilion 1. The run will begin at 10. It will not be officially timed. Lunch and entertainment starts at 11:30.
