Several Westmoreland and Allegheny County senior centers are receiving grant money that will help modernize buildings and expand programs.
As part of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, almost $2 million in grants was given to almost 50 senior centers across the state. In Westmoreland County, the New Kensington Center for Active Adults received $15,000, McKenna Center for Active Adults received $5,800 and Latrobe Center for Active Adults received $7,500.
In Allegheny County, Brighton Heights Senior Community Center received the highest amount with $100,000, followed by the Greenfield Healthy Active Living Center, which received $66,055. Homewood Healthy Active Living Center, Brighton Heights Senior Community Center, Highlands Senior Center and the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh also received funds.
“Pennsylvania has more than 500 senior community centers and they serve as an access point for older adults in need of services,” Robert Torres, acting secretary for the Department of Aging, said in a release. “This $2 million investment will benefit the senior population of today, and for generations to come.”
