Latrobe police to greet residents at art center
The Latrobe Police Department has established a tradition of inviting area residents to learn more about the work of its officers and other emergency responders during the annual National Night Out event, held the first Tuesday in August.
On Feb. 5, the department will try a new morning outreach effort: “Coffee and Cocoa with a Cop.” There is no set agenda for the public gathering, slated for 9 to 11 a.m. at the Latrobe Art Center, 819 Ligonier St.
“It’s just a way for us to continue building trust with the community,” said Chief John Sleasman, who plans to attend the event with several other police officers. “It’s just going to be a chance for the community to get to know us on a personal level and talk about whatever they want to talk about.”
Those attending also may check out paintings and photography on display in the art center’s gallery. The gallery staff will be on hand beginning at 10 a.m.
