K-9s, helicopter to be featured at Latrobe Police National Night Out

The Latrobe Police Department will present a free evening of family fun, demonstrations and information during a National Night Out event Aug. 6 at Latrobe’s Memorial Stadium.

Those attending the Night Out, which will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m., will have an opportunity to speak with drug and crime prevention experts while checking out the Westmoreland County Mobile Command Center, fire trucks, police vehicles and an Army Blackhawk helicopter.

Local K-9 officers and the HighKix Martial Arts studio will present demonstrations. A Chinese auction will raise money for Latrobe’s K-9 program.

Information will be available on the overdose treatment drug Narcan and on the Latrobe Reality Tour, which offers young people a glimpse of the negative effects of drug addiction.

There will be free activities for kids, with the first 200 kids receiving free backpacks.

A disc jockey will provide musical entertainment. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Donations will be accepted for All But Furgotten, a North Huntingdon-based humane rescue organization that has helped Latrobe police when they respond to assist animals that have been neglected.

National Night Out is an annual campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods “safer, more caring places to live.”
