Jeannette’s public meeting schedule for 2026 is set to change to allow for more time in between monthly agenda-setting sessions and voting meetings.

Council has approved the dates for its meetings next year that separates the two monthly sessions by eight days. Councilwoman Michelle Langdon suggested the change from the current format of meetings that are two days apart.

“I really don’t like the two-day crunch,” she said.

Under the change, voting meetings will remain on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. Work sessions will be held on Wednesday of the week prior at 1 p.m.

Langdon said the additional eight days between the work and voting meetings will allow council members more opportunity to get information from city officials and feedback from the public.

She initially made a bid to move the work session to an evening time, but compromised with Councilman Chad Krawtz who preferred to keep it at 1 p.m. There is no opportunity for public comment at the work session like there is at the voting meeting.

“I think the afternoon is better for the staff,” he said.

The change means there will not be a work session prior to the Jan. 8 voting meeting as it would have landed on Dec. 31.

Council will have a reorganization meeting at 8 p.m. Jan. 5.

That’s when a vacancy on council will be created as Langdon moves from her council seat into the mayor’s role.

Denise Ward will join the group as Councilman Chuck Highlands did not seek re-election.

The city will seek letters of interest for the open council seat.
