Irwin hires 4 police officers

Irwin Police Chief Dan Wensel said he wants to hire another full-time and a part-time officer.

Irwin Borough’s police department has added new four new officers to its ranks this week.

Borough council on Tuesday approved hiring both full-time and part-time officers, in part to replace three officers who have left in the past month.

Two part-time Irwin officers, Cody Stanoszek of North Huntingdon and Justin Hott of Pittsburgh, were hired as full-tme officers at a rate of $24.64 an hour, as determined by the police contract with the borough.

Andrew Carter of Munhall and Eric Williams of Pittsburgh were hired as a part-time officers at a rate of $22.88 an hour.

Irwin Police Chief Dan Wensel said he wants to hire another full-time and part-time officer.

“We were short-staffed,” Wensel said.

Cpl. Michael Hooper, a full-time officer, and Devin McCurdy, a part-time employee, both resigned this week. Hooper took a job with the Plum police department and McCurdy took a job with the Northern Regional Police Force in Pittsbugh’s North Hills, Wensel said.

Adam Painter, a part-time officer, resigned Dec. 24.
