This period view of the former Pepperday home on Latrobe’s Lloyd Avenue is featured in the new Latrobe Area Historical Society program, "Sixth Ward Revisited."

Latrobe Area Historical Society will present a new program, “Sixth Ward Revisited,” at 9:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Designed by Pam Ferrero, this slide show of historic images has been a year in the making. Those attending will learn about the history of the “land over the bridge,” referring to the arch bridge that allows motorists to cross the Loyalhanna Creek as they exit downtown Latrobe, heading southwest on Route 981 (Lloyd Avenue) toward Route 30.

The program also will offer glimpses of residents who called the Sixth Ward home over the years, and the businesses that have operated there.

Gas stations at Lloyd Avenue and Unity Street have changed affiliations through the decades. A block away, the Dunkin’ doughnut and coffee shop was preceded by a Mister Donut outlet. The small West Fare Super Market used to stock groceries further south on Route 981.

Doors open at 9 a.m. both days at the historical society headquarters and museum, 416 Weldon St., Latrobe.

Parking is available on the street Friday, with additional spaces on Saturday available in the lot of Kelly, Sparber and White, at Weldon and Alexandria streets.
