Hempfield's Movies in the Park to return in July with regulations in place
Hempfield’s Movies in the Park will be delayed this year as township officials work to comply with regulations put in place to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Originally slated to start Friday, the series now will begin July 24 at the Hempfield Park amphitheater, said Aaron Siko, director of parks and recreation.
“The reason for the cancellation is that we want to be able to fully comply with the state guidelines for the green phase, and make necessary adjustments to our open-space social distancing plan,” Siko said.
Those attending the event will be required to pre-register and registration will be capped at 250 people. About 150 people attended the event each night last year, Siko said.
The viewing area will be roped off and there will be specific entry and exit points. A registration receipt must be shown upon entry and people are encouraged to practice social distancing and wear face masks.
People still are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. A limited refreshment menu will be offered.
Registration for the event opens June 15 and can be completed online, at hempfieldtwp.com, or at the park office.
The schedule for Movies in the Park includes:
- July 24: “Onward”
- Aug. 7: “Abominable”
- Aug. 28: “Frozen 2”
