Hempfield leaders have postponed a health and wellness fair due to concerns over covid-19.

The event, originally scheduled for Feb. 28 at the township Athletic Complex, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 25, according to a post on the township’s Facebook page.

Township leaders postponed the event so large crowds were not gathering indoors for an extended period of time, according to Aaron Siko, parks and recreation director. He noted the event requires interaction between vendors and attendees.

UPDATE: The Healthy Happy Hempfield health fair event has been postponed. The new date will be September 25th.

The fair offers attendees a chance to learn about youth sports organizations and programs and facilities offered by the parks and recreation department as well as meet various organizations from across the county and learn about their services. Last year, that included Saint Vincent Prevention Projects, Penn State Extension, the Hempfield Volunteer Fire Department and more.

The event also featured kids activities, including games and prizes, along with activities like Zumba, kids yoga and Tai Chi.

“We are always looking for new events and ways to interact with the community,” Siko said prior to last year’s event. “A health and wellness fair seems to be a great way to benefit the community by having several wellness related options in one place.”

Siko said if the fair is unable to be held at the athletic complex in September, officials could consider moving it outdoors at one of the township parks.
