Hempfield manager submits resignation
Hempfield supervisors will be looking for a new township manager with the pending departure of Jason Winters in December.
Supervisors last week accepted Winters’ resignation effective Dec. 2.
“I would like to thank the Hempfield Township board of supervisors for the opportunity to serve the residents of Hempfield Township over the last 10 years,” Winters said in an emailed statement to the Tribune-Review. “I am proud of the accomplishments and projects we have done over this time, and I look forward to watch the township continue to grow.”

Winters began working with the township in 2012 when he was hired as the director of the parks and recreation department. He was promoted to manager in 2018.
He now is taking a job in the private sector.
“I think that Jason has served the township with distinction here for his entire tenure, first in parks and rec and then as the township manager,” Supervisor Bill Bretz said. “He’s decided to take another direction in his career. He certainly left Hempfield a better place than when he found it. I’m looking forward to the next chapter for us and wish him well.”
Bretz lauded several of Winters’ achievements over his Hempfield career, including the implementation of new online programs and financial software.
“I think that was a great achievement for him that he’ll have buttoned up before he moves on,” Bretz said.
Supervisor Tom Logan noted that supervisors will appoint someone to temporarily fill the position for the remainder of Winters’ contract, which expires next December.
They then will advertise for candidates and begin the hiring process.
“We have a plan to bridge the gap, and then we’ll start looking again,” Logan said.
