Greensburg woman accused of DUI after being found passed out in running car

A Greensburg woman was under the influence of Suboxone and marijuana when she was found passed out in her car with an infant strapped in a car seat at a New Alexandria convenience store late Saturday, state police allege in court documents.

Chelsey L. Persin, 35, of Greensburg, was arraigned in night court on charges of child endangerment, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, careless driving and reckless driving filed by state police at Kiski. District Judge Helen Kistler ordered Persin held in the county prison after she failed to post $25,000 bail pending a preliminary hearing June 26 before Derry District Judge Mark Bilik.

Trooper Robert Blystone reported an off-duty fireman called paramedics, firefighters and state police to respond to the Sheetz store at the intersection of routes 22 and 981 after he saw Persin unconscious in the driver’s seat in a running car with an infant girl fastened in a car seat behind her.

Persin was revived at the scene and “showed multiple signs of impairment,” Blystone said.

During an interview, Person told Blystone she had taken Suboxone, for which she has a prescription, and marijuana pills. Suboxone is a drug recovering addicts who used heroin and other opiates use to reduce withdrawal symptoms.

Police confiscated a bottle containing the marijuana pills from inside Persin’s car.

The infant was placed in the custody of a relative. Persin was taken to Excela Health Latrobe Hospital for a blood test before being arraigned.
