Greensburg Scavenger Race returning for another year
A scavenger hunt that sends participants racing through downtown Greensburg in an attempt to locate a litany of puzzles and riddles is scheduled for this weekend.
The event, scheduled for Saturday, will be the fourth time local entertainment venue 60 Minute Missions Escape Room is hosting the Greensburg Scavenger Race in partnership with downtown businesses, said Brian McCollum, co-owner of 60 Minute Missions.
“It is a fun way to get you into businesses that you may not traditionally patronize,” McCollum said. “Some of the businesses are new, and some of the businesses that we’re working with are staples that maybe we’re trying to incorporate them in a way you didn’t know or wouldn’t recognize them.”
McCollum said teams will gather at the starting line, the location of which has not yet been disclosed, and then work to solve more than a dozen escape room puzzles and riddles that will send them to destinations in the downtown Greensburg business area.
He noted the puzzles could be creative, goofy or involve a skill. Once the task is complete, participants will receive an award that will send them to their next location.
“We love designing our own puzzles and riddles and things, so that really was kind of the catalyst for us to do this,” McCollum said.
More than 10 teams, which can be made up of between two and four players, are registered to participate.
Registration, which costs $25 per person, is open through 11 a.m. Thursday. Those interested in participating can register online at 60minutemissions.com/book.
McCollum added officials are taking health and safety seriously and will buy enough props so people are not reusing them throughout the race.
Employees of 60 Minute Missions Escape Room also will be posted at participating businesses to assist players in an effort to not interrupt day-to-day operations of the businesses.
“It’s always a fun time,” McCollum said. “We will do it rain or shine. So far, the weather forecast looks really good, so we’re staying optimistic.”
The race, which begins at 11 a.m., will end with a celebration at an area establishment. Prizes will be awarded to the top racers.
